How well do you really know your teenager

The reality of society today is that we rely on a platform of media for 95 percent of our life daily. This means that teenagers are using communications skills less, they are spending less time outside looking at sunsets and their imaginations and dreams are replaced with thoughts on what is the latest trends and accessing any form of information visually that is requested by the individual. When your teenagers have their eyes peeled to their phone do you know who or what they are accessing. Who are their friends they are connecting to? What are their interests? What are their dreams?

How often do you feel you connect to your teenager? It only takes a ten minute conversation starter daily to connect and ask them how they are?

Some examples of this are..

  • How was school today?

  • Do you enjoy spending time with your friends?

  • What subjects at school do you enjoy the most ?

  • Can I help you with anything?

Building on these communication skills can help you get to know your teenager better.

Do you notice your teenagers moods by their body language? Does your teenager look unhappy or angry? Do they seem stressed?

As adults we need to be reminded that their emotional intelligence are developing. Even tho as they grow they are viewed by us as being independent, we still need to keep in check with them quite often. We are a more sensitive and self aware world and are a continue evolving race.
